Lilly in Texas

Lilly in Texas
From Lilly's adopter after about 8 months after adopting "She is definitely the queen of our pasture and has filled out beautifully. I was surprised when she grew a very heavy coat late last winter, then blew it with a minimum of grooming and is now a much darker bay than when she arrived. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL!!! She is still nervous, but we are working slowly with her. She walks very well on a lead and lets me brush her (prefers the rubber kind of brush that fits in my palm over the bristle kind) to a point. She does not like anyone fooling with her legs, but the farrier is coming out soon for the donkeys and can check her. She's interested in everything we do with the donkeys, like brushing and spraying, but freaks over being sprayed for flies. I put the liquid on a small rag and rub her while Danny brushes the other side. Takes time but she's worth it. She likes to lick and nuzzle the backs of our necks. I know it's for the salt but still think it's sweet. She's so careful and hasn't bitten or kicked, although we make sure not to walk behind her. This is the most social horse I have seen in ages. Whenever we go outside, she's at the fence, calling to get her nose rubbed. We've increased the pasture size, taking in some of my father's land (he lives "next door") and he taught her to eat apples. (She would touch nothing like an apple or carrot when she came.) She can also tell time and makes sure she's at the main gate when we come in from school. Guess who escorts us to the barn for the 4am feeding? She took to the barn quickly...shares a large stall with Bella and Stella, our mini-donkeys. When it's cold, they bed down together. I would love to ride her, just for fun, but am too old (52) to break her myself. We have located two people who are very gentle and will work with her, but there is no hurry. Right now, she's just for loving. And I tell everyone about PMU mares...we're going to have an article in the school newspaper this fall about her/them. Just wanted to check in, and promise to send some pictures....."

Janie in Canada

Janie after arriving in Texas

Jani's filly, Lightning
Born April 31st in Texas

Jani after Lightning was weaned

Here is what Lightning's adopter has to say about her:

Lightning is a delightful gift. She is more dog than horse! I started her myself and she taught me a lot as well as learned very quickly. She is very intelligent, curious and lovable. Very beginner riders are enjoying riding her now, and are so excited because they fall in love with her personality. She is a character and loves to climb (step-up) on anything she can. I still think I need to teach her some tricks, just need the time to do so. She enjoys trail riding and loves the water. She sticks her head and complete body underwater...can be unfortunate for the rider! She also faces into the rain while the other 5 horses turn their backs to it...amazing!
