Hershey is a very sweet, special girl. She will easily give her trust, and has a very willing nature. We believe she had a baby last year (see AJ above). She was pregnant this year, but aborted before we acquired her. So, she hasn't been ridden for a minimum of two years. Despite that, when we tested her ability she did very well. With about two weeks of "brush-up" work, she should be a great beginner's horse. If you are looking for a family horse that adults feel comfortable riding and is safe enough for the kids - Hershey is the mare for you!

When we first got Teddy, he was so emaciated he had a body score of 1. Upon evaluation by a veterinarian, his teeth problem was realized. As soon as we changed his diet, he immediately put on weight. Teddy is very laid back and calm. He is an absolute sweetheart. He loves attention and loves to be scratched. He has a "been there, done that" type of attitude. He will be a great family horse and a great horse for a child to learn about horses and how to groom them. We will know more about his riding ability after we fully evaluate him.

Abby
Photo taken January 4, 2009 Photo taken March 10, 2009 Photo 3/10/09
Name: Abby
Gender: Mare
Age: early 20's
Breed: Appaloosa cross
Height: 15.2 hands
Physical Problems: missing upper incisors and two molars
Bad Habits: none known
Experience level needed:
Type of riding: Western, trail riding, kids' horse after some fine tuning
Date acquired: J
Ability level: Western and trail riding
Adoption Fee: $250
We acquired Abby from the Grayson County Sheriff's Office. She was a court-ordered seizure; because her owners had moved away, leaving Abby behind with no one to feed or take care of her. A neighbor was giving her water, but when the water at the property was shut off, she didn't even have water to drink. At Abby's first veterinary exam after acquiring her, we discovered that she has no upper incisors and is lacking two molars. This means she is unable to graze normally by biting the grass with her teeth. However, she can use her lips to get food into her mouth and then chew it with her remaining molars. Because of her missing incisors, the vet said it was difficult to pinpoint her age, but he estimates that she is in her early twenties. Due to weeks of little to no care, it has taken a lot of extra attention and nutrition to bring Abby back to health. She is now well on her way to complete recovery. In spite of her teeth problems, Abby will not be a difficult horse to maintain. She is doing very well on a pelleted grain and chopped alfalfa. Abby is very good-natured and easy to work with on the ground.
Abby is broke to ride, but it appears that she has not been ridden in a long time. She knows the basics, but needs a "refresher" course to get her back in shape. Even though it is estimated that Abby is in her early 20s, she does not act it. She has plenty of energy and likes to be busy. Abby will make a good kids' horse after some fine tuning.

Dillon is a 12 year old Thoroughbred gelding. We acquired him with his best buddy Jake (see below). Jake and Dillon's owner came into a difficult financial situation, which rendered her unable to pay the boarding facility where she kept them. The boarding facility severely decreased their care and feeding because of this (see picture). Since the owner's financial situation made it impossible to take the necessary steps to rehabilitate Jake and Dillon, she gave them to us so we could bring them back to health and find good homes for them. More information will come after we have evaluated Dillon's abilities.

Jake is a 15 year old Thoroughbred gelding. We acquired him with his best buddy Dillon (see above).
Jake is broke to ride, and is very responsive to walk, trot, and canter cues. Jake has a good head on his shoulders. When he encounters something that he is unsure of or that scares him, he will stop and look at it, then go up to it and "check it out." He doesn't run away from it. Jake does prefer to have another horse with him when he is out on the trail. Come and meet Jake - he will be a great horse to take home!
Thera
Photo taken February 15, 2003 Photo taken September 2003 Photo taken June 2005
Thera was a wild Mustang born in Montana in 1995 and adopted through the Bureau of Land Management program in 1997. She was bound for the slaughter house in 3 days when we bought her from the slaughter buyer. Her overall condition was not too bad, but she was in need of good care especially because she was pregnant at the time. She gave birth to a beautiful colt, who has since found his forever home. Thera has a good mind, and she tries hard; but she is still pretty shy around people. Once you catch her, she can be haltered, groomed, and led. If you give her lots of love and attention, she will learn to trust you. Please give her a chance to show you how much love she has.
Thank you, Carla, for sponsoring Thera!
